SHAH ALAM: An 18-year-old wireman is facing the possibility of being jailed for 14 years for snatching a handbag which only contained a school uniform and an identity card.

R. Sinnappayan was this morning charged at the Sessions Court for stealing the bag belonging to a 16-year-old school girl at an overhead bridge in Taman Indah Perdana, Kepong at 6pm on Sept 29.

Deputy public prosecutor Faridah Nardinie Baharom asked the court not to offer any bail due to public interest as this was a snatch theft case.
She said Sinnappan was being charged Section 392 of the Penal Code which call for a maximum sentence of 14 years and a fine.

However, judge Hasbi Hassan fixed bail at RM7000 with one surety.

She told Sinnappan that if he managed to raise bail, he should not to be involved in any crime pending trial or risk having it revoked.

Hasbi also fixed Nov 8 for mention and told Sinnappan to appoint a lawyer.

At Press time, Sinnappan had yet to raise the bail sum.
